Welcome to Flat Holm Island just 1/2 mile wide and 5 miles from Cardiff. The island has a sense of wilderness, remoteness and isolation. It’s rich in wildlife and steeped in history with amazing views across the Bristol Channel.
During the 18th Century the location of Flat Holm was ideal for smugglers who were said to have used natural tunnels leading to a concealed exit to the sea. In 1897 the first wireless signals were transmitted across open sea by an Italian inventor by the name of Guglielmo Marconi.
So as Marconi’s first message read “Are you ready?”
