2018 Trip Dates
  • 28th January 2018 13.00-17.30pm

This is our first trip for 2018 and could be  ideal to just get away. Come and kick back in peace and quiet for a few hours on Flat Holm Island with a nice relaxing drink in the Gull & Leek pub, hot or cold.

Then go for an amazing guided tour of the island and find out about the possible resting place of two knights involved in the murder of Thomas Becket, The Archbishop of Canterbury in 1170. Also learn of how the first ever wireless signal was sent over open sea from this island to Lavernock point on the mainland of Wales by Guglielmo Marconi in 1897.

It’s a great place for kids to come and let off some steam while meeting the local rabbits and see if they can spot the resident wild sheep wandering the island.

The weather here can change at the drop of a hat.

We would highly recommend waterproofs and warm layers including . If it’s cold out then its going to be even colder on the boat.

We would suggest that too many layers are much better than too few.

Sturdy shoes for walking around the island as the pathways around the Island are just grass and it can get slippery and muddy after it has rained.

We would suggest a small back pack. Just to stuff your extra layers in after the boat trip out.

Feel free to bring a packed lunch. There is no cafe on the island only the most southerly pub in Wales. Cold beers and hot drinks are available and of course a souvenir shop 🙂

If it’s a family outing then a couple of small backpacks would be ideal for the layers and of course feel free to bring a packed lunch.

Bring a camera. The views are fantastic. If you like wildlife then you will be spoilt for choice. Slow worms, seals, rabbits, wild sheep and so many different bird species. If you’re a keen photographer then the possibilities are endless and the simple selfie memory pic will be rather unique.

Please remember. What you bring onto the island you take off the island. Flat Holm  is an SSSI island (Site of Special Scientific Interest). Please take all rubbish home with you and in the name of conservation if you see any rubbish on your walk around please pick it up. Once back on the mainland you can dispose of it in the bins on the quay side. Thank you.

Fly a kite. Visit Santa at Christmas. Go camping. Do an Easter Egg Hunt. So much to do…

That’s right. You can do so much on Flat Holm that you may have to come back more than once. Go bird watching, check out nesting season when over 4000 pairs of Lesser Black Backed Gulls rain down on you or autumn when the migration starts and we get visitors from far and wide. Check out RSPB Cymru who can help you identify those birds for you.

Bring your kite and enjoy the fun and relaxation this can bring. Make sure you have good walking footwear so you can tackle the rocks on the beaches and make sure you bring your camera for some fantastic opportunities to take some unique and inspiring images on and around the island. Sunrises and sunsets are just amazing and on a clear night get some amazing long shutter speed images of the milky way….
